Get your predictions in… Rumour has it that a nautical theme is in the running, perhaps a shade of blue will be the winner, or could green be on the cards again? Dulux has chosen Tranquil Dawn as its colour of 2020, a muted green colour inspired by the morning sky, which we love. We wonder if Pantone will follow suit? The new year is the perfect time to give your kitchen a refresh, so why not incorporate the colour of the year in there? See our top tips below to stay bang on trend in 2020.

Tiles

A really effective way to change up your kitchen is to update your tiles or splashback area. We understand replacing tiles can be a costly process, therefore if you’re working to a tighter budget you can actually paint your existing tiles, providing that they are in good condition. Depending on how confident you are, you can either coat the entire surface in one colour or use a pattern such as stripes or triangles to add elements of intrigue. The best thing about painting your tiles as opposed to replacing them, is that you can stay on trend but also easily paint over it in years to come if you choose.

Soft Furnishings

Perhaps you don’t want to fully commit to painting or making permanent changes to your kitchen, but you want to remain on-trend. Hey, we won’t judge! After all, next year you might love the colour of the year even more. Luckily, there is a fast, and cost-effective solution; accessories. Update your tea towels, chair covers, candles, vases of flowers, placemats… the list is endless. The best thing? No paint in sight!

Kitchenware & Appliances

If you’re into your appliances and fancy kitchen gadgets, why not make a real statement with them by choosing them in the colour of the year? If you’ve currently got a neutral coloured range of appliances, you can afford to have a stand-out appliance to be the star of the show! This would make a great gift - so get it on your birthday/Christmas list asap! Alternatively, if you don’t want to get your mixer in a colour you might have gone off in a year or so, why not invest in something smaller such as chopping boards, coloured utensils or tea and coffee canisters?

Hardware

If you’re feeling brave, and your current kitchen allows for it - why not update your kitchen hardware and finishings? Get on the hunt for coloured cabinet handles, door/coat hooks, hooks for your teatowels - perhaps even update your lighting! If you have colour changing LED lighting, you can go the extra mile and create a hue with the colour of the year in mind Be as creative as you like!
